My uncle, John Carlson, passed away yesterday from a severe stroke. It was completely unexpected. He was my second father, and I've been close to him and my aunt Anita all my life. I'm flying down to Florida for his funeral today - something I thought I'd never have to do so soon. He was a healthy man. He and his wife fed black bears in their back yard. Every Christmas my entire family gathers at their home. He taught me how to drive. He was also a godly man, so I'm sure he was unafraid of dying. What little comfort that brings me is more than enough to make it through this.
